Featured Shop: The Harmony Collection

This week we sat down with Susan from The Harmony Collection and got to know her and her shop.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and what you create? I learned to knit for my grandma when I was young. I knitted things off and on throughout my marriage, and several years ago started up again. I also make quilts and went through a jewelry making phase. I seem to need to be doing something with my hands whenever I sit down.

How did you come about wanting to open a shop on Etsy? I opened an Etsy shop a couple of years ago, but really started to post and sell a little over a year ago. I'd moved to a more expensive area, and needed to make money to help pay the higher rent. Also, it seamed so silly to have boxes of stuff I'd make just sitting in closets!

What do you like to do in your free time when you are not working on your Etsy shop? These days, I find that I'm working on my Etsy shop most of the day, everyday. I retired in 2006, but I'm working more now then ever! But it's doing something I enjoy, and I'm the boss now. In my "free time", I like to spend time with my daughter who lives nearby, and I help out with her horses most days. And I'm a lifelong avid reader!

What is your most popular product you sell?

The thing that I sell the most is hand knit hats. And I love making them. I usually create my own patterns and love working with color. I make only One of a Kind items.

How long have you been practicing your craft or art?
As I said, I've been knitting and sewing since I was in Jr. High school. When I was raising my girls, I sewed a lot, made most of their clothes until they started wearing only jeans and t-shirts.

Featured Shop: Some R SaltS

This week we sat down with Tisha from Some R SaltS and got to know her and her shop.
Can you tell us a little about yourself and what you create? My name is Tisha and my shop is SomeRsaltS. I create bath salts, candles, and crochet items, original photography. I will be adding in the future wire wrapped shark teeth necklaces/bracelets, new candle styles that incorporate up-cycled wine bottles and coconut shells. Also, more crochet items for home and bath and sewed items.

How did you come about wanting to open a shop on Etsy? I opened my shop on Etsy when I was unemployed. I was bouncing off the walls from having too much time on my hands. I decided I needed to do something productive so I opened Nautical Plus Notions originally. After a few months I changed the shop name, tweaked a few things and became SomeRsaltS.

What do you like to do in your free time when your not working on your Etsy shop? My free time I go to the beach digging for shark teeth, weather and low tide permitting. I am also teaching myself how to sew.

What is your  most popular product you sell?
The most popular item is my Spree candy bath salts. Close second is the Grape-ade bath salts.

How long have you been practicing your craft or art?
My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was very young. In my teens my mom took a photography class and got me interested in it. She would develop her own film and I enjoyed countless hours of helping her, learning from her. The other crafts like candle making, I am self taught. I see something and want to try it. I am always wanting to learn and create.

Where can we find your merchandise online?

Featured Shop: Kelleen Kreations

This week we sat down with Kelleen our team captain from Kelleen Kreations and got to know her and her shop.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and what you create?

I'm from the beautiful state of Washington and live about 20 minutes of downtown seattle. My shop Kellen Kreations is filled with custom children's clothing, including girl's peasant dresses, 3-tiered twirl skirts and girls aprons. My shop also offers kitchen accessories including pot holders, drink coasters and women's aprons.

How did you come about wanting to open a shop on Etsy? About 3 1/2 years ago, my college roommate was getting married and loved everything to do with cherries. For a wedding gift, I sewed her a cherry theme apron, along with cherry placemats, pot holders and drink coasters, she absolutely loved them! At the time, I decided to open my own Etsy shop and feature primarily aprons and kitchen accessories. After a while, I then added little girl dresses and skirts.

What do you like to do in your free time when you are not working on your Etsy shop? Off time finds my husband and I relaxing and enjoying time together, participating in a variety of shared activities: gym time at least three times a week, daily walks with our dachshund, playing tennis, traveling, camping, visiting family, cooking, reading, and watching favorite TV show and movies.

What is your most popular product you sell?
My best selling item seems to be my little girl aprons, especially sewn from cupcake prints.

How long have you been practicing your craft or art? I have always been around a sewing machine, as my mom sewed many of my clothes when I was little. I took a sewing class when I was 10 yr. old and continued to sew on my own until high schoool. I then took the sewing portion of the Home Ec as an elective in high school and then went on to college for fashion design

Featured Shop: Sewcial Studies 101

This week we sat down with Marica from Sewcial Studies 101 and got to know her and her shop.

Can you Tell us a little about yourself and what you create?
I am a retired high school assistant principal and former Spanish teacher. I live in a northern suburb of Detroit with my engineer husband. Our two boys are grown and out of the house -- one in AnnArbor, MI, and the other in Columbus, OH.

My items are sewn and pieced table runners, napkins, lap quilts, pillow covers, and upcycled t-shirt scarves. All of my creations are OOAK and I never replicate any. So, buying something from me means that no one else will ever have one just like it!

How did you come about wanting to open a shop on Etsy? I decided to open an ETSY shop when I retired and wanted a new direction. My closets were overflowing with quilts that I had made and I decided to try to part with a few of them. (My family members already had at least one of my creations, and I was running out of space.)

What do you like to do in your free time when your not working on your Etsy Shop? When I am not sewing, I love to scrapbook, gardening, and read.

What is your most popular product you sell? My most popular item is the upcycled t-shirt scarf. I have made several special orders, as well as hundreds that have already sold.

How long have you been practicing your craft or art? I have been sewing since grade school, when my grandmother began to teach me.

Where can we find your merchandise online? I only sell via ETSY online
